WHO I AM!
My name is Jason Skeels and I am an Assistant Principal at Springbrook Middle School as well as the middle school Athletic Director in Adrian, Michigan. I was working as an instructional coach previous to being moved into an Interim Assistant Principal role during the 2020-21 school year. I am a former high school social studies teacher, softball, football, and powerlifting coach. This website was developed as a culmination of work done in the Michigan State University College of Education online Masters of Art in Educational Technology Program and as an educator over the past 16 years. It will hopefully give you a better understanding of who I am as an individual, teacher, coach, and learner.

Jason Skeels the EducatorAfter completing my undergraduate studies at Grand Valley State University, I obtained a position as a long-term substitute at Wyoming Rogers High School in Wyoming, MI. I spent almost two years teaching Special Education classes, Economics, American History, English, and a few other subject areas. I then obtained a teaching position at Kalkaska High School in Kalkaska, MI in the Social Studies department. I taught in Kalkaska for nine years. Some of the classes I have taught during my nine years at KHS included: World Geography, American History, Civics, Economics, Computer Applications I and II, Marketing, Honors American History, Honors Economics/Civics, and numerous Independent Study Courses. I then taught Social Studies for four years at AHS where I taught Economics, Sociology, Senior Seminar, Freshman Seminar, History of Sports in the USA and an Independent Study Peer to Peer Course. By diversifying myself and teaching in many different areas I learned a lot about myself, my organizational techniques, different subject areas, and especially time management.
While not only being a teacher, I pride myself as being a community member, I have spent and continue to spend a lot of time volunteering for our Athletic Boosters/Fan Club, I have always been in the weight room with multiple student athletes, both male and female, participated in a few different school groups, and have helped develop a youth football program for the Kalkaska community during my time there and helped bring Little League back to the Adrian community. I feel that being a part of your community is extremely important and I want to instill that belief upon my students. As a member of the the Adrian Public Schools community I have helped students to give back through volunteering in their community, run after-school tutoring sessions both in person and virtually, established a mentoring program at AHS, created a power lifting club for male and female lifters, given my time to different civic and private groups, been on our school improvement team, been a part of multiple interview committees, and developed opportunities for our school to become a point of community pride. I am currently working as an assistant principal and athletic director at Springbrook Middle School and I was previously an Instructional Coach for Adrian Public Schools focusing on 6-12 curriculum and educational technology for the entire district. |
Jason Skeels the CoachWhen I am not in the school setting, I like to spend my time either on the field, in the weight room, or in the gym. I have coached a few different sports since the age of 19. I started coaching for the Tecumseh Parks and Rec. Department coaching 13-15 year old baseball. After completing my undergraduate work at Grand Valley State University I began by coaching J.V. baseball as an assistant at Wyoming Rogers High School, in Wyoming, MI for two seasons. While at Rogers HS I also coached J.V. football for one season as an assistant. I volunteered in the weight room throughout the school year and summer. In the summer I spent my time coaching Wyoming's high school summer baseball team. After obtaining a teaching position at Kalkaska High School in 2008, I began immediately calling the defense for the J.V. football team. After one season at that position, I spent the next eight seasons as the defensive coordinator for the Varsity team. I was also a volunteer assistant for five seasons with the Varsity softball team. In 2014 with another football coach, we began a Powerlifting club at Kalkaska and we developed this into a great after-school club for both males and females. I have recently stepped down as the head coach for the Varsity softball team at Adrian High School where with a great staff, we have helped develop a Middle School program for our area and also brought Little League back to the city of Adrian. In 2017, I started a powerlifting club at AHS where six lifters competed at the regional and state level, and four lifters were named all-state in 2018. For the 2019 season, we had our first state champion and numerous state placers! During our 2019-20 season, with two other coaches we have grown our club program to nearly 50 lifters and it has become a varsity sport at Adrian High School. As a new middle school AD, I am still heavily involved in athletics and focusing on coaching my daughters as they continue to be involved in youth sports in our community. Though I am no longer coaching at the high school level, I volunteer my time helping our Varsity football team in the booth on Friday nights, our softball program 6-12, and coach my daughter's Little League softball team of 7-10 year olds. |
