Jason T. Skeels
I am currently an Assistant Principal at Springbrook Middle School. I was in my first year as an Instructional Coach at Adrian Public Schools before I was chosen to serve as an interim Assistant Principal for the last third of the 2021-2022 school year. I taught Social Studies for four years at Adrian High School prior to moving into an administrative role. I have enjoyed teaching a variety of classes such as Sociology, Freshman Seminar, History of Sports in the USA, Senior Seminar, Civics, and Economics to a diverse group of students.
I spent nine years as a high school Social Studies teacher at Kalkaska High School in northern Michigan. While there I taught a range of classes, which included: American History (Honors also), Civics (Honors also), Economics (Honors also), Marketing, Computer Applications I and II, and World Geography. While teaching, I have pursued my Masters of Educational Technology degree from Michigan State University. This program has allowed me to integrate the latest technologies into my classroom and try new teaching practices.
I have always been a part of many functions within the community where I live. With my marketing class as the basis at KHS, I started a school store that operated as a functional business selling clothing and other merchandise at sporting events. I was also a part of our Athletic Boosters who raised money for college scholarships, athletic equipment, and college visits for student-athletes. On top of this, I coached two varsity sports. In the fall I was the defensive coordinator for the football team and for five seasons I was the assistant Varsity softball coach. As the class of 2018 class adviser, I worked as the chairperson of our schools site advisory committee, and I worked closely with the our Downtown Development Authority and my classes to help improve downtown Kalkaska. During the 2017 school year I was chosen by my peers as the Outstanding Person in Education for Kalkaska Public Schools. Since working at Adrian High School the past four years, I have found a great sense of community where I have been involved in many extracurriculars that are benefiting both myself and my students. Working with the Maple Fans Club, starting a powerlifting club, a mentoring program, being an event manager, and coaching Varsity softball, I am very involved in many different aspects in our school.
In my down time, when I am not in the school, the weight room, batting cage, or on the athletic fields, I am committed to my family and friends. I have been married for almost 12 years to my wife Megan, we have two daughters, Andersen, who was born in May of 2015 and Gracie, who was born in July of 2018. I spend a lot of my down time doing construction projects, in the weight room, coaching, camping, running, with my family, or out on the lake either fishing or enjoying the sun. I am an avid sports fan and I will watch about any sporting event but prefer college football or major league baseball, especially the Michigan Wolverines on Saturdays in the fall and the Detroit Tigers throughout my summer.
Being a part of the community has been of utmost importance to me and I want to continue to improve the community I live and work in, while also teaching this trait to my students. I strive to have each of my students continuously learn and attempt to be the best at whatever it is they choose to do, this includes school work! Our softball motto when I was the Varsity head coach was, "Be Great", this is something I strive to live by daily. I try to be as involved as possible, attending multiple sporting events, volunteering in the concession stand, watching musicals and other events in our performing arts center, or being present at community events that take place throughout our county.
Thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit about me, if you have any questions I can be reached by email at [email protected].
